Short Informal Review of TinTin

TinTin was really awesome! It took me into a comic which I loved. The style in the way in which the story was less complicated or told in such a simple manner, allowing for visuals to not just tell the story but to show how well this 3D motion capture works. Characters had great detail and depth. A character I wasn’t too pleased with was TinTin himself because I thought he was a very two-dimensional character in comparison to Capt Haddock who was presented as more three-dimensional in the sense that you shared a lot of his emotions or saw him transition through great variations in emotions whilst Tintin remained rather plastic. I’m not quite sure if this is due to the actor himself presenting the character as two-dimensional or rather it was a factor of using the motion capture which I doubt because Haddock himself was rather more explosive with his emotions and allowed them to flow. Naturally due to the drunk nature of Haddock his character transitions through various emotions but TinTin was all too much the same throughout the film. Speaking of transitions, the film had some amazing cut aways that told two stories, the main and a sideline one but also there was very smooth transitions from locations. This is of course possible thanks to the whole movie being done in animation rather than real life.

Overall to keep this short and sweet, TinTin was a good watch and had some real potential. I would easily give it a 3/5 for being pure entertainment. In fact it’s worth seeing TinTin in 3D just because it’s animated. I’m less of a fan of real life 3D but hopefully the Hobbit and Avatar 2 will change that.

So the longer version of this yesterday at the Odeon, apparently an exclusive trailer version and so far can’t find the long version on the internet but to summarize the exclusive look at Bridesmaid,

It’s hilarious and I definitely have it on my must see list…
I could describe the scene but it just wouldn’t be right, the end of this trailer though is where that exclusive gets extended and damn the scene is one of the funniest yet grossest things I’ve seen in a long time
